SAGE Research Methods Video: Practical Research and Academic Skills

This collection of over 450 streaming videos on the SAGE Research Methods platform offers support on the practical skills that you need to successfully complete your research. Key areas such as writing a research proposal, planning and designing a research project, and securing ethical approval are explicitly covered. Practical skills such as project management, writing for publication, presenting work, and building networks are also presented through helpful explanatory videos.

Canadian Opinion Research Archive (CORA)

The Canadian Opinion Research Archive at Queen's University makes available commercial and independent surveys to the academic, research and journalistic communities. PEDro: Physiotherapy Evidence Database

PEDro is a free database of over 28,000 randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physiotherapy.

Public Health +

Public Health + comes to you via the McMaster Health Knowledge Refinery. Every article from over 120 medical and allied health academic journals is critically appraised to identify those that are methodologically sound. Articles that pass this process are rated (maximum 7) by clinicians for relevance and newsworthiness, and are then sent to this website. The articles are updated weekly and a searchable archive is kept on this website.

Health Evidence

Search healthevidence.org for access to 3,853 quality-rated systematic reviews evaluating the effectiveness of public health interventions. We search the published literature and compile public health relevant reviews -- eliminating your need to search and screen individual databases. Use of the database requires registration which is free.

A sociology research database which provides over 2.1 million records with subject headings from a 20,000+ term sociological thesaurus.
SPORTDiscus with Full Text
Includes over 1.7 million records with journal and monograph coverage going back to 1800; over 22,000 dissertations and theses, and international references from journal and magazine articles, books, book chapters, and conference proceedings.
Women's Studies International (EBSCOhost)
Coverage includes more than 871,000 records and spans from 1972 and earlier to present, from over 2,000 periodicals. Despite its name, this database covers a broad range of gender-identity-related issues, not just "women's studies".

Provides full text to peer-reviewed journals from Elsevier Science, including a large number of journals in the life sciences.

Wiley Online

Wiley Online is a multidisciplinary collection of online resources covering life, health and physical sciences, social science, and the humanities. The Library subscribes to a large subset of the journals published by Wiley, but not all of them. As of Winter 2019, the Library also provides access to over 20,000 Wiley ebooks, which is most but not all of them. The Library is unable to provide access to Wiley Textbooks.

Comprises over 21 million citations for biomedical literature from MEDLINE, life science journals & online books.
PsycINFO
Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology.
PEN Nutrition
Topics in PEN address the broad spectrum of practice in nutrition and dietetics including institutional care, primary health care, public/community health, consulting/private practice, food service management, professional education, food and the pharmaceutical industry and government. Recognized authorities on each topic or Knowledge Pathway addressed in PEN contribute to the identification of relevant literature from filtered and original sources and critically appraise, grade and synthesize that literature into key practice points or answers to practice questions.
JSTOR Arts & Sciences I - VIII Complement Collections and Life Sciences

Provides access to archival & current issues of over 1,400 scholarly journals across 57 academic disciplines. Includes primary source materials.

Robertson Library does not subscribe to all of the JSTOR collections, so use Interlibrary Loan to request articles that are not available in JSTOR or the Library's other collections.

Cochrane Library

As of 2019, the entire PEI community can use Cochrane for free, as long as you connect using a device with an IP address that "geolocates" within the 4 Atlantic provinces, see further explanation below.

Agricola (via National Agricultural Library) [Public Access]
The National Agricultural Library collection of more than 3.5 million items covers all aspects of agriculture and related sciences.
Child Welfare Information Gateway
Provides access to print and electronic publications, websites, databases, and online learning tools covering topics on child welfare.
CINAHL
The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) provides indexing for 3,000+ journals from the fields of nursing, physical therapy, nutrition, occupational therapy, and other allied health fields. Nursing topics include clinical practice, nursing education and teaching, nursing research, patient care, health promotion, patient education, and rehabilitation. Contains more than 2.3 million records dating back to 1981.
