Top Resources

OneSearch - Most (not quite all) of the library's databases are aggregated in OneSearch. You will find journal articles, books, and more (video, news, etc). It is NOT specific to engineering, though includes Inspec, a large Engineering database.

Compendex - Search the other Engineering-specific database, Compendex, on the Engineering Village plaform. It is the most comprehensive engineering index of journal articles. It also includes proceedings, dissertations, and book chapters. It has many Engineering-specific indexes and filters - such as the ability to search by temperature.

IEEE Reference Guide - how to cite in IEEE style.

Access Engineering - An online reference haven. Find handbooks, videos, interactive charts, and calculators, including hundreds of standard industry reference books. Arranged by topic, industry, or curriculum maps. To find books, browse or use the search tool on Access Engineering, or search our library catalogue. [more info]

Handbook of Sustainable Engineering - The Handbook of Sustainable Engineering equips readers with the context and the best practices derived from both academic research and practical examples of successful implementations of sustainable technical solutions. The handbook’s content revolves around the two themes, new ways of thinking and new business models, including sustainable production, products, service systems and consumption while addressing key assets based on new materials, optimized resource management, and new energy sources. Contributions reflect a focus on state-of-the art insights into employing smart materials, recycling e-waste, water utilization, solar cells, product lifecycles, transportation and reverse manufacturing. Supportive of this, underlying issues such as engineering education, consumer behaviour and the regulatory climate complete the handbook’s comprehensive treatment of the problems and most promising solutions.

Available Standards:

Standards collection ('permanent reserve') - Standards that we have purchased are available under Course Reserves > Faculty of Science > Engineering Standards.

IEEE Xplore Digital Library - includes IEEE standards, and IEEE Standards Dictionary Online.

ANSI Incorporated by Reference - ANSI standards that have been incorporated into US Federal regulations are available for free (view only, plugin required) at

Search for standards:

TechStreet (Thomson Reuters) - search standards from many organizations.

IHS Global - search standards from many organizations.

If you need access to a specific standard, please contact the library, and we will attempt to source a copy if price allows.

Engineering Parts and Products

IQS Directory - search for products/services by category or company name. Includes information about manufacturing processes, videos, images, technical articles, and definitions of industry-specific terms. A good place to search for OEMs.
