Abegweit First Nation is a small and proud Mi’kmaq Band that traces its roots to Epekwitk (Prince Edward Island), dating back 12,000 years according to oral tradition and archaeological evidence.
Lennox Island First Nation is a Mi'kmaq community of 450 people. Archaeological evidence and oral traditions indicate the presence of their ancestors on the shores of Malpeque Bay dating back 10,000 years.
