12 Days of Postcards - Day 1!

Welcome to the 1st day of 12 Days of Postcards!

In the early 1900s, “tall-tale” postcards featuring unbelievable or exaggerated crops and animals were popular ways to boast of rural life in North America. There are books dedicated to this subject, such as Larger Than Life: The American Tall Tale Postcard 1900-1915 and Tall-tale Postcards: A Pictorial History, in which they described the public’s fascination with these humourous postcards.

This particular postcard was sent from someone vacationing in PEI to an acquaintance in Jersey City, NJ.

Stay tuned on Monday for another tall-tale postcard. Click here to see the full PEI Postcards collection.
