UPEI RefWorks Migration May 2015

On May 14, 2015, UPEI RefWorks accounts were moved to the US RefWorks servers as the Canadian Scholars Portal site is discontinuing hosting for RefWorks.

Things you need to know:

  • You do not need to do anything in order to keep using your RefWorks account.
    • You may have received a message from ProQuest if you have been assigned a new login. (You can change this assigned login from within your own account under Update Profile)

  • Other than the URL change, you won't notice any change in using RefWorks.
    • The RefWorks URLs will be updated on the Library website.
    • Please update your own bookmarks following the migration.

  • All of your citations and attachments will be transferred automatically.

  • Your RefShare links will be automatically updated. If you need to find the new URL for one of your RefShares, login to your account, click on the Organize and Share Folders tab, and then click on the corresponding shared folder icon to find the URL.

  • All Write-N-Cite users will need to re-install WNC from within their own RefWorks account. (Any version of WNC downloaded before the migration will be pointing to the Scholars Portal server and will not be able to connect to your account.)
    • To download Write-N-Cite (also called ProQuest for Word), log in to your RefWorks account, select Tools, select Write-N-Cite.

  • For WNC 4 Users ONLY who have documents in progress:

    • WNC 4 inserts a subscriber ID in the Word document itself. If someone started a paper using WNC 4 before the migration on May 14, 2015, that subscriber ID is in the paper properties. The new version of WNC 4 won’t find that sub ID so the sub ID will need to be changed in the document.

    • See the Windows or Mac instructions for changing this subscriber ID in your Word document(s).

  • If you do not wish to have your account transferred:

    • You can export your citations and move them into an alternative tool, such as Zotero Mendeley, or EndNote.

    • Choose References > Export from the RefWorks menu. (All "online" citation management systems use servers located outside Canada.)

    • Please note that it is not possible to export attachments, only citations.

    • Once you have completed the export, contact Meghan Landry, mllandry@upei.ca to have your RefWorks account deleted.
