Scholarly Communications & Resource Sharing (Unit)

The Scholarly Communications & Resource Sharing unit develops and supports systems and services that facilitate the creation, dissemination, and preservation of scholarly works throughout the research lifecycle. The unit provides expertise in interlibrary loan (ILL), open scholarship (open educational resources and open repositories), research data management, and knowledge synthesis reviews.

 

Resource Sharing

Interlibrary Loan - provides library users access to materials (books, articles, microforms) not available in Robertson Library by requesting the materials from other libraries. The Interlibrary Loan staff are Christine MacLauchlan and Dorothy Peters. For further information, contact the ILL Department at 566-0445 or by email ill@upei.ca.

Data Liberation Initiative - a Statistics Canada program to provide Canadian post-secondary institutions access to Statistics Canada public use microdata files, detailed Census data files, databases and geographic files. Use of these files is limited to UPEI faculty, staff and students for academic research and teaching purposes. DLI files may be requested through the UPEI DLI contact, Kim Mears.

Scholarly Communications

IslandScholar - the University's repository for works by UPEI scholars including student theses, projects and faculty publications. 

Open Educational Resources (OERs) - a guide to open educaitonal resources and information about the Open Education Resource (OER) Development Program, including: 

  • a free, online publishing platform, Pressbooks
  • grants for the creation, adaptation, adoption, and review of OERs
  • education and resources on OER topics, such as creative commons or finding openly licensed materials
  • recognition of UPEI faculty who have selected open textbooks or open educational materials for their course(s) through the Faculty Textbooks Champions 

Article Publishing Charges Discounts - Through the Robertson Library's participation in the Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) to purchase journal subscriptions, faculty, students, and staff are eligible for discounts on Article Processing Charges (APCs) associated with publishing open access journal articles!
