HOW TO BORROW:
Faculty, staff, students of UPEI and off-campus borrowers must acquire a Campus Card at the University's Sports Centre or Residence services. Off-campus borrowers (members of the general public) must first obtain and complete a library registration form. Click to download a Registration Form or pick one up from the Service Desk; forms must be handed in to staff at the Service Desk before acquiring a Campus Card. Campus Cards must be presented for circulation transactions. Any fines incurred are the responsibility of the cardholder. The Library is not responsible for loaned or lost cards. Lost cards must be reported to the Service Desk and to UPEI Security Services immediately to avoid unauthorized use. Your lost card may be turned in to the Library Service Desk or Security Services. Please check both places before obtaining a replacement card. Replacement I.D. cards cost $20.00.
BOOK LOAN PERIOD:
Circulating books normally have a loan period of 21 days for undergraduate students with two renewals, provided they are not requested by another patron. Renewals may be done by telephone, in person, or on-line through the Library Catalogue or My Library Account. Reserve material cannot be renewed. Faculty borrowing information can be found at the Circulation Borrower Regulations for Faculty web page.
MEDIA CENTRE LOAN PERIOD:
Audio-cassettes and slides can be borrowed for 7 days with two renewals. For more information on this or other Media Centre details, please contact staff at the Service Desk at 566-0583.
RETURNING LIBRARY MATERIAL:
Library material is to be returned to the Service Desk. When the Library is closed, the book drop located outside the Library can be used, though borrowers do so at their own risk. (All Media Centre material must be returned to the Service Desk.) Fines are assessed according to the date material is received in the Department. Please note: If the Library is open, Reserve items must be returned to the Service Desk.
OVERDUES AND FINE RATES:
Fines are assessed on all overdue Library materials. All items are to be returned to the Library on or before the due date. Borrowers can check under My Library Account to see when items are due and/or renew items. Fines are paid at the Service Desk during operating hours. Overdue items are assessed a fine of $.25 per day, per item for circulating books, and up to $5.00 per hour for Reserve materials.
Holds (up to 5 at one time) can be placed on material already signed out. This can be done by the Service Desk staff or through the Library catalogue. Please note that the Hold service is only for those circulating items which have "Checked out" as their status, not for items which are available in the Library or for non-circulating items such as Reference material. A borrower cannot place a hold on a book s/he has currently signed out.
LOST AND DAMAGED MATERIAL:
The penalty for lost or damaged material is $50.00 minimum. The charge covers any replacement and processing costs.
Library patrons must notify the Service Desk immediately of any change in address or phone number by filling out Registration form, and bringing it to the Service Desk.
SUSPENSION OF ALL BORROWING PRIVILEGES:
All borrowing privileges will automatically be suspended when a borrower has reached $10.00 in fines.
PLEASE NOTE: For additional information, please inquire at the Service Desk or telephone 566-0583.
